Please note - This coral was retired on March 2008 because reservation demand had dropped off significantly and we also had lost our seed section. There are also lots of better colored Echinophyllia corals available now. This was however one of the first. compatible Echinophyllia aspera and Zoanthus sp.

Reeffarmers.com tested this corals fluorescence ability and discovered that this coral should fluoresce very well in just about every reef tank. Lighting & Flow Requirements: The Blue Moon Echinophyllia requires moderate water flow and low to moderate lighting (PAR 80-250) to maintain its color. T5's, Metal Halides, or LED's can all grow Echinophyllia & Chalice Corals when the proper PAR levels are provided. Similar Species: Echinophyllia aspera, which has smaller corallites without thick beaded costae. Can be mistaken for the faviid Barabattoia amicorum. For more Infos click to the Link to AIMS.

Free and Open Access to Biodiversity Data. Genus Echinophyllia was established by Klunzinger in 1879 for the type species Madrepora aspera under the family "Fungidae". It was thought to be closely related to Halomitra, Mycedium and Echinopora but only Halomitra is in Fungiidae while the latter two are nested within Merulinidae. Echinophyllia aspera is a species of Hard Coral of the family Pectiniidae.
