Piae Cantiones ecclesiasticae et scholasticae veterum episcoporum (in English Pious ecclesiastical and school songs of the ancient bishops) is a collection of late medieval Latin songs first published in 1582. It was compiled by Jacobus Finno, a clergyman who was headmaster of the cathedral school at Turku.

CHAPTER III. THE PIÆ CANTIONES COLLECTION. The song collection, Piæ Cantiones ecclesiasticae et scholasticae veterum episcoporum (Piæ Cantiones, pious church and school songs of the ancient bishops), is largely a medieval collection of songs. Piae Cantiones (Spiritual Songs), the first Finnish music ever to be printed, was published in Greifswald in 1582. Although many of the texts are on religious themes, the Piae Cantiones songs are not hymns; they represent a varied repertoire sung as extra-curricular entertainment for students.
Although the collection of songs known as ”Piæ Cantiones” is from 16th century Turku, Finland, most of its tunes are familiar around the world, particularly as
